Mayra E. Alvarez
President, The Children’s Partnership
Mayra E. Alvarez is the president of The Children's Partnership, a nonprofit advocacy organization working to advance child health equity through policy, research, and community engagement. Throughout her career Alvarez has worked to improve the U.S. health care system and health equity, whether by serving on the Covered California Board of Directors and the state’s Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission or in various roles supporting the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
At the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services from 2014 to 2015, she led the team responsible for supporting states in the establishment of Affordable Care Act marketplaces including Covered California.
While at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health in 2013–2014, Alvarez led the coordination of its work related to the ACA, community health workers, and language access.
Alvarez has also been called on to serve by federal and state leaders. In 2021, she was named by President Joe Biden to the COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force.
