Efrain Talamantes, MD
Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, AltaMed Health Services
Dr. Efrain Talamantes, MD, MBA, MSc, is the chief operations officer of health services at AltaMed. He has dedicated his career to advancing health equity in medical practice and in medical education.
When Talamantes joined AltaMed in 2018, he was the inaugural medical director for the AltaMed Institute for Health Equity, leading health services and community-partnered research and training to advance health equity and medical education. He also currently serves as the inaugural Designated Institutional Officer for the AltaMed Graduate Medical Education Committee.
Bringing his public health education and training to bear, Talamantes has been instrumental in redesigning clinical operations to improve value-based care outcomes by addressing complex health and social care needs. In 2020, Talamantes was selected as one of the Managed Healthcare Executive 10 Emerging Industry Leaders.
A triple Bruin, Talamantes has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and is a recognized health equity advocate and leads initiatives throughout the country to enhance diversity in the health care workforce.
